Retail Commercial Services Manager
Position posted week of May 24, 2010

Under direction of the Associate Director of Business and Finance, responsible for the vendor operations, such as contract negotiations, contract management, and building positive working relationships with vendors; develops short- and long-term goals that will increase revenue; develop, promote and coordinates revenue-producing programs; establish personal contact and rapport with potential and actual customers to understand service requirements; direct and evaluate implementation of new programs, products, and services.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Maintain policies and procedures for all revenue-generating service areas in compliance with California State University, San Francisco State University, Student Center, state and federal requirements.  Analyze the efficiency of each of the revenue-generating service areas.
  • Maintain, develop and administer formal Request for Proposal processes for filing vacant retail lease spaces.
  • Administer vendor contracts and monitors vendors for contract compliance in accordance with Student Center policies.  Resolve problems and conduct annual vendor evaluations.
  • In consultation with the associate director develop, conceive and assist in the implementation of programs that will increase the financial stability of the Student Center.
  • Administer the annual Student Center Survey, and report findings to the Student Center community.
  • Oversee the hiring, supervising and evaluation of the Games Room staff.   Develop and control the budget for the department.
  • Represent the Student Center on committees, task forces and other organizations with particular reference to retail programs and services provided.
  • Collect, analyze, and maintain appropriate data relative to customer usage levels, customer satisfaction, sales, promotional and marketing efforts.
  • Evaluate services and recommend improvements for services.
  • Prepare reports to present to the associate director, managing director, and SCGB
  • Perform other related tasks and duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related field and three years of progressively responsible work experience managing contractual related services.
  • Ability to solve problems and build teams.
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Ability to work within a multilingual environment that is ethnically and culturally diverse.
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and computer applications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and well-developed oral and written skills.
  • Preferred:
  • Management experience in a commercial or university food service environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of food service, facility maintenance and renovation, and program services.

The Cesar Chavez Student Center of San Francisco State University is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a 5.3 million budget.  San Francisco is an ethnically and culturally diverse city, and the Student Body of San Francisco State reflects this multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment.  The Student Center is the University's non-profit auxiliary organization whose mission is to provide programs, facilities, and services in support of educational, extracurricular, social and cultural activities to the 25,000 students on campus.  The Retail Commercial Services Manager manages 18 vendors.

COMPENSATION

Salary is commensurate with experience.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT & BENEFITS

This is a regular, full-time, 12 months per year exempt-level management position.  Employees are subject to management reviews and serve at the pleasure of the Managing Director.  Student Center-assisted health and welfare coverage for employee and dependents includes medical, dental, and vision.  Management employees earn 22.5 days of vacation per year; 8 hours of sick leave per month; and receive 14 paid holidays per calendar year, including one personal holiday.  The center contributes 12% of an employee’s gross salary into a TIAA-CREF 403(b) retirement plan.
