Cesar Chavez Student Center
Construction Updates


A short-term construction project will be taking place on the North-East corner of the roof of the Cesar Chavez Student Center this summer. The project will start at the beginning of June. The purpose of the project is to renovate the space on the Terrace Level for additional student services in the future. Business will proceed as usual in the building, and safety is the number one concern for the duration of the project.

Thursday October 8th:
The project schedule has been stretched to completion by the end of January due to the installing of the new concrete seats.


Friday August 28th:
Install Concrete Seats the last week of September.
Complete Project the last week of October.


Friday July 24th:
Updated Schedule

Remove Roof and Parapet Walls - 7/24 to 7/31
Install New Roof - 8/4 to 8/20
Reinstall Concrete Seats - 8-31 to 9/09


Thursday June 11th:
We finally have a schedule on the Amphitheater Roof Repair. Here are the milestones.

Date: 6/11-17
Task: Staging/Signage
Comments: Ground level in front of Amphitheater / Contractor to use inside of the Amphitheater as storage of supplies/equipment.

Date: 6/15-24
Task: Concrete Seats - Cut caulking/Remove Nuts

Date: 6/24-30
Task: Demo interior ceiling
Comments: Debris box in front of outside amphitheater stairs.

Date: 6/24-30
Task: Remove Concrete Seats
Comments: To be done off hours

Date: 6/24-8/07
Task: Remove Old Roof and Install New Roof and Waterproofing

Date: 8/10-19
Task: Re-Install repaired Concrete Seats
Comments: To be done off hours

Date: 8/10-24
Task: Install new interior ceiling & lights.

Date: 8/17-28
Task: Install caulking sealant.

There will be many contractors in and out of the amphitheater and inside the pyramid. There is no anticipated disruption of business other than possible construction noise.

We will have an open meeting today at 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in T-153 to discuss any issues/concerns you may have regarding this project.


Wednesday June 3rd:
The project is scheduled to start next week. Preliminary work will begin to gather more logistics, staging and set up.
The lifting of the seats will be done at night for approximately one week Monday thru Friday 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The lifting schedule is yet to be finalized; possibility of starting somewhere between June 15th - June 22nd. We will keep you inform once a firm schedule is at hand.

Tony Hayward will have an open meeting tomorrow 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in T-153 to give more detail and/or to discuss any issues/concerns.
