The Student Center Governing Board Election took place on November 16 and 17. Three student representative-at-large positions were open. The term for these newly elected officials will be from January 2012 through January 2014.

What is the Student Center Governing Board?

• The SCGB is responsible for all facets of the 140,000 sq. ft. Student Center including its facilities, services, programs, and the $4.6 million budget. From approving new murals to working on vendor leases, and deciding which services the Center provides, the SCGB does it all.
• It is their mission to “provide, maintain and develop facilities, programs, and support services that promote and enrich the educational, social and cultural needs and objectives of our richly diverse campus and local communities.”
• Governing board members are expected to commit at least five to ten hours a week, be available for board meetings (1st Thursday of each month, 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.), attend two orientation meetings, attend two retreats, be familiar with SCGB documents, chair one SCGB committee or sit on two, and participate in a bi-annual performance evaluation of the managing director.
